Black Barrel Solutions | FAQ

Q. Are your barrels safe for food use?

A. Yes, they are food grade barrels and have not been used for chemical storage.

Q. What do people use your black barrels for?

A. Rain water collection and storage is the most common use, but one guy built a bio-loo, we've got farmers using dozens of them for animal food storage. You can also brew beer, spirits or cider in them. A few people are also storing liquid compost.

Q. How many can I buy?

A. How many do you want :) You can buy as many as you like. We have had customers buy 50 at a time, and can arrange larger orders if that's what you need. Or you can just buy one.

Q. How can I pay?

A. We accept cash, direct credit, cheque and credit card via PayPal.

Q. What size is a barrel?

A. Our black barrels are 200 litre. The dimensions are approximately 100cm high and 60cm diameter with the mouth (top) 50cm diameter.

Q. Where are you based?

A. We are based in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Q. Can I collect my order?  Where do I pick up my order?

A. Yes, our address is 13 Vicki Street, Riccarton Christchurch.

Q. Will you deliver outside of Christchurch?

A. Yes, we deliver to anywhere in South Island, and North Island upon request.

Q. What is the difference between the premium taps and economy taps?

A. The premium tap is a metal tap and is better for more usage especially more heavy duty usage, pressure and is more sturdy. The economy tap is more ideal for limited water collection/storage.

Q. How does the the water harvester act as an overflow when full?

A. Water flows into the barrel through the hose, when the barrel is full, it backflows out through hose and over the internal grill and into the down pipe. Yes, it doesn't leave a puddle on your path. :)

Q. What is the life expendancy of the filters in the water filtration sytems?

A. They last approximately between 12-18 months dependant on amount of use.

Q. Can this filter system work with a modern kitchen mixer, so we don't have to have another tap?

A. No, it needs to run through its own filter system, as it will slow the output of the water, and also sharply drop the life of the water filters.
